About this policy
This Privacy Policy explains how CDL Prep ("the app", "we", "us") handles information when you use our mobile application. CDL Prep is an offline-first study aid for Commercial Driver's License practice tests. All questions are bundled in the app, and the majority of features work without an internet connection.
By downloading, installing, or using CDL Prep, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
This policy applies only to CDL Prep and does not cover any third-party websites or services that may be linked to or used within the app (such as Google Play).
Information we don't collect
CDL Prep is designed to function without collecting personal information. We do not operate any backend server for the app's core features, and as a result:
- We do not require you to create an account or sign in with an email or password.
- We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal identifier.
- We do not access your contacts, camera, microphone, or precise GPS location.
- We do not track your activity across other apps or websites.
- We do not run our own analytics or crash-reporting services that send data to us.
All quiz data created inside the app — such as your progress, mistake history, bookmarks, and settings — is stored on your device only. We simply have no way of seeing this information.
Third-party services we use
While we don't collect any data ourselves, CDL Prep uses services provided by Google to offer optional paid upgrades and to keep the app running smoothly. These services operate under Google's own privacy policy, not ours, and may process limited technical data as described below.
1. Google Play Billing (Purchases)
CDL Prep offers an optional lifetime Pro upgrade. All payments are processed entirely by Google Play Billing — we never see, receive, or store your card details or any other payment information.
- Google may process your purchase history, transaction ID, and entitlement status to complete the purchase and confirm your access to Pro features.
- Your purchase (including refund requests) is managed directly through the Google Play Store, not inside the app.
- We only receive a simple confirmation that a purchase was successful, so the app can unlock Pro features on your device.
2. Firebase (Backend & Analytics)
We use Google's Firebase platform to provide anonymous authentication, app analytics, remote configuration, and optional cloud data storage. Firebase may process limited technical data as follows:

What requires an internet connection
The core study experience in CDL Prep is fully offline. All practice questions, explanations, and test simulations are bundled inside the app and do not require internet access.
An internet connection is used only for the following:
- Processing and verifying Pro purchases through Google Play Billing.
- Firebase Anonymous Authentication (assigning a temporary random ID).
- Firebase Analytics (sending anonymized usage statistics).
- Firebase Remote Config (receiving updated question sets or app settings).
- Optional Firebase Firestore sync (if enabled, to back up quiz progress to the cloud).
No personal identifiers are transmitted during these operations.
Permissions this app uses
Below is a plain-language explanation of the permissions CDL Prep may request, and why:

- If you uninstall the app, your local data is deleted from the device.
- If you have enabled cloud sync via Firebase Firestore, your progress may be restored when you reinstall and open the app.
Children's privacy
CDL Prep is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and — as explained throughout this policy — we do not collect personal information from any user at all. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a third-party service integrated into this app, please contact us so we can look into it, and contact Google directly regarding their services.
Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR (Europe), UK GDPR, or CCPA (California) to access, correct, delete, or export personal data held about you.
Because CDL Prep does not collect or store any personal data on our own servers, there is generally no data for us to provide, correct, or delete on your behalf. For data processed by Google on behalf of Firebase or Google Play Billing, you can exercise your rights directly through Google:
- Account & purchase data: view or manage at myaccount.google.com and your Play Store purchases page.
- Ad & activity settings: manage Google data collection at myaccount.google.com/data-and-personalization.
We do not sell your personal information, and we have no personal information to sell.
Data security
Since your app data stays primarily on your device and is never transmitted to us, the security of that data largely depends on the security of your own device — for example, using a screen lock and keeping your operating system up to date. Data processed by Google's services (Firebase, Play Billing) is protected under Google's own security practices, described in their privacy policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, if we add a new feature that changes how data is handled. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date at the top.
